Tissue Forceps

Tissue forceps are thumb forceps with teeth or fine serrations that grip tissue securely during dissection, retraction and wound closure. Toothed tips hold tough tissue such as skin and fascia, while atraumatic patterns like DeBakey protect vessels and bowel. Grey Medical offers more than 40 tissue forceps patterns in our forceps and clamps collection.

Toothed vs Atraumatic Tissue Forceps

Toothed forceps, such as Adson 1×2 or Bonney, have interlocking teeth at the tip. They give a firm, non-slip grip on dense tissue, which makes them standard for skin closure. Atraumatic forceps, such as DeBakey, have fine longitudinal grooves that hold delicate tissue without puncturing it, which is why vascular, cardiac and GI surgeons rely on them.
